Oil Abstraction

Assignment:

In this painting the goal is to explore the physical qualities of paint with sensitivity to the interaction of formal relationships such as mark making, shape, value, colour, and texture. For the painting, the process of building upon and changing visual relationships is crucial. You will be expected to transform your painting multiple times through the repetition of the two approaches specified below. Colour selection, application, and interaction skills be considered throughout. Color harmony or intentional discord should be evident in a range of mixes (you should not just apply tube colou colours throughout the process ).

Professor's expectations: 

The final painting's surface is a visually dense collection of layered painterly phenomenon. This effect was produced from sustained interaction with and change to the painting over the entire project length. Substantial changes and shifts (as documented in photos) have occurred to the surface, producing an abstraction radically different from early marks. The visual and formal relationships that make-up the painting are highly resolved, nuanced and unexpected.
